How to host a quiz night on your TV
You need a screen everyone can see, a phone or laptop for yourself, and about ten minutes to set up. Here's the whole thing, start to finish.
What you need
- A screen
- A smart TV with a browser, a laptop plugged into a TV, or a projector
- Your controls
- A phone, tablet or laptop — any device with a browser
- Your guests
- Their own phones, if you want buzzers or phone answers. Paper works too
- An account
- Only for you, the host. Free, sign in with email or Google
- Set-up time
- About ten minutes for a first quiz; a minute once it's built
Six steps from nothing to a game
Create a quiz
Sign in, press New quiz and pick a format: the board, a pub quiz or quickfire. Choose the number of rounds, the teams, the language and the difficulty.
Fill it in
Type your questions into an editor that mirrors the screen, or describe a theme and let the AI draft every round. Add music clips, pictures and dares.
Open the TV screen
Press Host, then “Get TV link”, and open that link on the television. Press full screen, and tap once to allow sound.
Let everyone join
The TV shows a QR code and a five-character room code. Guests scan or type it at thepartyquiz.com/buzz, enter a first name and pick a team.
Start the game
Your lobby shows the TV is connected and who has joined. Move anyone on the wrong team, then press Start.
Run the room
Open questions, watch the buzzes or answers arrive, award the points and reveal. The TV and every phone follow you.
What each screen does
Shows the game
Questions, clips, the countdown and the scores. Never the answer before you reveal it.
Runs the game
Every control: open, reveal, score, undo, next round. The answers are on your screen only.

A buzzer on the board, an answer pad in the pub quiz, four big options in quickfire.
Hosting questions
Can I host from my phone?
Yes. The host screen works on a phone, so you can walk around the room with it. Many hosts use a laptop instead. You can open the host screen on both, but run the questions from one of them.
What if the Wi-Fi drops?
Phones and the TV reconnect when the network comes back, and the TV catches up with wherever the game is. Board scores are kept on the host's device, so a reload doesn't lose them.
Can I test it before the party?
Yes — open the TV link on your laptop and join the buzzer room on your own phone. Or play a demo first.
Do guests see my answers?
No. Answers are only on the host screen. The TV receives an answer at the moment you reveal it, and the phones never do.
