The birthday quiz everyone talks about after
Put a game-show board on the TV, hand everyone a buzzer they already own, and hide a few dares in the grid. Categories about the birthday person are optional, and highly recommended.
How do you run a quiz at a house party?
Keep it short, loud and a little physical. A single board of 25 clues takes about half an hour; two boards and a tie-breaker fill an hour. Put the TV where everyone can see it, split the room into two to four teams, and run the game from your phone so you can stay on the sofa.
The best party boards mix general knowledge with one category about the guest of honour, a music category, and two or three action squares.

How long should a party quiz be?
Thirty to sixty minutes. One board is about half an hour; two boards and a tie-breaker is about an hour, which is as long as a party wants a quiz to be.
How many teams for a party?
Two to four works best on a board — enough rivalry, and everyone gets a turn to pick. For a big crowd, try a quickfire round where everyone answers at once.
What if some guests don't have phones?
Put them on a team with someone who does — or play without buzzers and let people shout. It works either way.
